Well, I was pretty sure it wouldn't work, considering it took three days to get updated on Steam last patch....but I'm not sure if YOU know. CCP...do you know that you sell a game on STEAM? A slightly different version that has an extra background process to chat to others outside the game. Currently "gameoverlayrenderer.dll" is crashing the game. I'm pretty sure that is the STEAM overlay for chat. Last time I talked to all my friends who have the Steam version and on the steam forums and NO ONE could play it for around 3 days. This time it seems NO ONE can play it either. Listen if you are going to try and sell it on STEAM, maybe download just one version of it to try yourself before releasing the patch. In fact you didn't even fix the patch on the last one, eventually the steam trial was updated to quantum rise and people had to download that to get it to work.
YOU SELL A STEAM VERSION YOU SELL A STEAM VERSION
I have my doubts this will get resolved anytime soon. Sorry for being a big **** about it, it's just that I was 99.9% sure when the patch deployed, the steam version would not get tested.

** FIX FOR STEAM VERSION ** Ok, found a way to install the patch for those of you using steam. First close steam. Navigate to the eve .exe file (usually - C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\eve online\eve.exe) Run the .exe and install the patch. Start steam and run the game as normal.
I know I sound over-reacting in my earlier post and I know you guy's are under a lot of stress right now trying to deal with the problems. The main thing that upsets me is I talked some of my friends into getting the steam version and after the first patch deployment, the quit using it on steam so I cannot use the steam tools to interact with my friends. On top of this, they now seem to think Valve is a problem company and are wary of getting any other games off of steam. So, by not testing this at least once on the steam version no only is it hurting your new customers, but it is giving Valve a bad name for something that is not their fault.
Also...you know you can send an .exe patch file to valve and it will download and install for you right? That way the game doesn't even need to be started for people to get updated.

After the patch my game is a lot smoother overall. Menus fly now (after first load) and battles are much smoother. However, after having the game on for maybe 4 or 5 hours (fight, afk, fight) it got extremely slow. My ship was on fire which seemed where the slowdown started, but after I returned to base and fixed it up, it was still really slow. I'm running premium graphics.

We have been looking at this issue internally and with Valve since Saturday, working hard to resolve it.
We have reproduced this problem with the latest Steam client and older EVE clients and Valve has reproduced it with the latest EVE client. There is increasing suspicion that a Steam client update on 14 November could potentially have contributed to this problem, but that has not yet been fully verified.
We are jointly continuing our efforts to figure out what interaction between the EVE and Steam clients causes this issue and resolve it. I'll follow up with more updates later.
Thanks for the response! Glad to know this issue is being looked into. Here's hoping the next patch goes smoothly for steam users!

Oh, also. The error seems to happen because eve and steam are running at the same time when it switches to patch installation. Maybe if you have steam download the patch.exe and run it before the game starts then the error would not occur?
